Insomnia Recording Studios delivers professional, great sounding recordings and productions while keeping the recording process comfortable and affordable. It's important that we exceed the artist's expectations for a great quality recording. We use top quality, world class equipment and are skilled with mic placement, mixing multiple genres, and are experienced with many bands and musical scenarios.

We have strong working relationships with several recording studios in Austin, TX, such as Stinson Studios, Tequila Mockingbird Studios and Energy Studios, we offer tracking services in several facilities to accommodate different budgets and band needs.
All pre/post production, editing, mixing and mastering will be done at our facility in Cedar Park, TX.

About Insomnia Studios




The Insomnia Recording Studios facility is located in a cozy neighborhood in Cedar Park, TX. Currently, the facility consists of a fully treated mixing room and a pre-production room. Within 2014, the facility will expand to include a fully treated live room, control room and two isolation booths.


Adam Donovan started his music career first as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and live sound engineer more than 20 years ago. In 2012, he attended The Recording Conservatory of Austin where where he studied sound engineering, music production, music theory, song composition and business of music.


Adam regularly travels nationally and internationally with touring bands. He has experience as a stage manager, drum tech, guitar tech, bass tech, lighting tech, lighting engineer, recording engineer and front of house live sound engineer. He has produced music from the stage to the studio.

Recording Day Preparation Tips


  1. Rehearse, plan and arrange your songs thoroughly before booking studio time. Recording studios are not cost-effective rehearsal rooms.

  2. Pick the best key for your songs. Many keys that seem natural on the guitar or keyboard may not be optimal keys for the vocalist(s). Find a key that works for everybody.

  3. Bring the tempo (bpm) for your songs with you but remember:

    • Studio tempos commonly feel slower than live tempos.
    • The tempo you pick in rehearsal often seem too slow in the studio once your adrenaline starts flowing.

  4. Bring a tuner and use it often.

  5. Bring extra copies of any charts or lyric sheets and any demos that you may have.

  6. Thoroughly check all of your equipment before you get to the studio.

    • Drummers should inspect their hardware and fix any squeaks or creaks, particularly in pedals; have a variety of sticks and brushes.
    • Check the condition of top and bottom heads. If possible bring a second snare.
    • Guitarists should change strings: check cables, bring spare strings, picks and batteries. Bring an extra set of strings.
    • Bass players should not change strings (unless you are going for a very trebly sound) but should clean them with isopropyl alcohol.
    • Bring an extra set of strings.

  7. Be on time. That means not early and not late. Make sure that you are well-rested. Water and coffee will be on hand but bring anything else that you might want to drink. Of course, it is a myth that musicians play better when they are drunk or high.

  8. Vocalists should avoid consuming dairy products before and during the session. Drink water to keep your body well hydrated, and avoid alcohol and caffeine. Your vocal cords vibrate very fast, and having a proper water balance helps keep them lubricated. Important note: Foods containing large amounts of water are excellent hydration-conscious snacks, including apples, pears, watermelon, peaches, melons, grapes, plums, bell peppers and applesauce.
